Why does distance data between odometer and GPS differ?
Why does distance data between odometer and GPS differ?
Updated over a week ago

First and foremost, the data differs because it’s obtained in different ways.

Odometer data is received through various electro-mechanical converters and depends on the wheel speed, while GPS fleet tracking system data is obtained by mathematical calculations of the vehicle’s location according to the navigation satellites.

🔔 Do not forget! GPS mileage starts from 0 when the device is installed, so it's important to adjust it to match your vehicle's actual mileage for accurate tracking on the platform.

The data accuracy depends on various factors, such as:

  • Use of worn or incorrectly sized tyres;

  • The presence of permissible odometer errors;

  • Temporary satellite signal interferences due to temperature, pressure, humidity, and other conditions, etc.

More information on this topic can be found in our blog.

To align the two CAN and GPS values, we recommend updating the mileage data in the vehicle profile once a year or after a tyre change.

To update mileage open Vehicle Profile and under 'Technical information', update 'Mileage (GPS)' with the current odometer value and date, then click SAVE.
