About Time zones
A timezone is a designated region on Earth that follows the same standard time. There are 24 time zones globally, each differing by roughly one hour. In DVR systems with cameras, setting the correct timezone is crucial for accurate timestamping of recorded footage.
✅ Best Practice: Aligning DVR Timezone with Company Timezone
Aligning the timezone settings of camera with the local timezone of the company's physical location is essential. This practice ensures seamless operation, eliminates timestamp discrepancies, and simplifies the process of reviewing and analyzing footage.
Daylight Saving Time (DST)
Daylight Saving Time (DST) is a practice where clocks are adjusted forward by one hour in spring and back by one hour in fall. It's used in various countries around the world, including the United States, Canada, parts of Europe, Australia, and some regions in South America and Asia. The aim is to make better use of daylight during longer summer days, potentially saving energy by reducing the need for artificial lighting in the evening. However, not all countries use DST, and its adoption can vary even within countries, with some regions opting out entirely or choosing not to adjust their clocks.
DST with Cameras
When DST begins or ends, the clocks are adjusted forward or backward by one hour, respectively. If the timezone settings on cameras and DVR systems are not updated to reflect these changes, it can lead to discrepancies in the timestamps of recorded footage.
📘 In our system, Howen and Queclink CV200 models automatically update their timezones for Daylight Saving Time (DST) transitions, ensuring accurate timestamps without manual intervention.
For other cameras, timezone adjustments during DST changes must be made manually as per the instructions provided below.
How to change the timezone
The Camera Memory Card section enables users to easily change the camera's timezone. Follow the steps below to adjust the camera's timezone:
Locate the current camera timezone displayed on top of the timeline (after selecting a vehicle and date).
Click on the pencil icon to edit.
A new popup window will appear with information about changing the timezone. In the popup, use the select box to choose the new timezone for your camera device.
After selecting a timezone, click on the CHANGE CONFIGURATION button.
A command will be sent to the device, and camera will automatically reboot. It can take up to 2 minutes.
After the reboot you will see that the camera timezone has been successfully changed.
