How does authorization with a chip work

Mapon provides also a solution for driver authorization in the vehicles using physical RFID cards or other devices with chips.

The idea of this solution is to authorize every time your driver gets into the vehicle.

Using this solution minimizes any human mistakes in a driver assignment process, because there can be only technical issues or incorrect actions during authorization.

✅ It is possible to use your existing chip solution (RFID cards or other devices with chips).

How to setup chip verification

There is one step required before you start using this solution. You need to decide who will link the chips to the drivers in the system.

RFID or chip assignment to drivers by Mapon

If you trust Mapon to assign RFID or other chip IDs to your drivers, you will need to create driver profiles or provide us with a list of drivers so that we can link them in your Mapon account so that drivers can start using the devices for authorization.

🔔 Important! You will need to hand out the cards to the appropriate drivers after we assign drivers to authorization devices.

RFID or chip assignment to drivers by client

If you prefer to specify the RFID card or other chip IDs yourself and hand out the cards to drivers, you will need to:

  1. In the Drivers section find existing driver and press Edit or ADD NEW DRIVER

  2. In the Profile data tab enter RFID or other chip ID in the iButton field and save it

📘 This has to be done for each driver who is going to use RFID card or other type of device with an authorization chip.

🚨 If you enter an RFID or other chip ID after the driver has already used it, the authorization will only show up on subsequent routes. This driver will not be updated in the route history.

How driver can be deauthorized

Deauthorization of an existing driver happens when a new driver is authorized in the car with their RFID card or other chip or by some other authorization method.

If the driver who is going to drive the car is not able to authorize himself in the car, or the route should not be registered with any driver of your company, the Mapon user needs to deauthorize the driver from that car in the platform before turning on the ignition.

✅ If the route has been linked to the wrong driver already, you can remove or change driver in the report called 'Routes'.

🔔 Keep in mind! If you are using a chip with a magnet and driver stays authorized until the chip is being removed, then deauthorization will happen automatically once the chip is detached from the reader.

Common issues

Here are the most likely reasons for incorrect driver or no driver in the vehicle in case of RFID usage:

  • driver has not registered his RFID card or other chip;

  • driver RFID card's or other chip's ID has not been entered or is stated incorrectly in the iButton field of the Driver profile;

  • driver removed the card from the reader too early or placed it incorrectly on the reader;

  • driver forgot to register his RFID card before starting the route;

  • driver's card is damaged;

  • tracking device or the reader are not functioning due to low temperature or other conditions;

  • driver's RFID card's or other chip's ID doesn't match with the one stated in his Driver profile;

  • driver is using authorization chip that is not supported by Mapon.

🔔 Do not forget! If you are using driver assignment in some other way as well, please, make sure, that assignment or driver unlinking was not caused by the other assignment way.
